ABOUT

The Civic Knowledge Hub is a map-centered civic research interface for Tripoli, Lebanon, built by the Institute for Worldmaking (IWM), the research arm of The Khan — a registered Lebanese NGO (cert. no. 1278, 2016). A researcher clicks a building, adds records, photographs, and audio; the city's knowledge accumulates as a permanent public archive.

METHODOLOGY

The base map combines 30,187 building footprints reconstructed from the 2013 Tripoli plan with 2,850 additions from 2026 OpenStreetMap comparison. Fieldwork is organized by 500-meter survey zones. Records pass from field deposit through steward review before appearing as verified. Every change is kept in an append-only history; every file carries its contributor, timestamp, and consent status.

DATA & LICENSE

Data is held by IWM as a public trust and published under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Restricted participant material (contacts, owners, consented interviews) never appears in the public layer. Community members may review and request removal of their records at any time.
